About
I am a passionate follower of Christ, husband, father, technologist, leader, manager, and entrepreneur. It is my joy to serve as Director of Information Technology for The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas (Kansas City area).
I have led Resurrection’s IT Department since 2003. Our capable team supports more than 200 staff and untold volunteers on a network sprawling across 9 buildings in 8 locations. Read all about our infrastructure here. My credo for managing the department is: “our default answer is ‘yes’.”
My degree is in computer engineering (an electrical engineering specialization) from Iowa State University in 1984. Since graduating, I have been a software developer, then lead developer, project manager, executive manager, and founder of four companies.
My dad was a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) pastor for more than forty years and my wife, brother, sister, uncle, and cousin are all DOC pastors too. In my spare time (yeah, right!), I serve as the volunteer Technology Director at my wife’s church, Living Water Christian Church in Parkville, Missouri.
I am honored to be part of the informal leadership of the grassroots Church IT RoundTable organization. If you’re involved in church IT, then you need to be involved in the Church IT RoundTable. It’s the coolest thing in the world.
I also work closely with Web Empowered Church, an organization that builds church-specific extensions on top of TYPO3, a leading open source web content management system. Everything WEC does is given away for free to churches and Christian organizations around the world. WEC is a Kingdom-minded organization that deserves your involvement and support. If you’re building or rebuilding a church web site, you should seriously evaluate WEC.
I have two children. Beth is on the path to become a pastor. Rob is a college student.
